The 18-year-old was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the high-profile murder in a pedestrian tunnel in Skärholmen outside Stockholm, despite denying the charges.
He is now appealing the verdict. Through his defense attorney, he is requesting acquittal or mitigation of the sentence.
It was in April last year that 39-year-old Mikael was shot to death in front of his son after confronting a group of youths in the pedestrian tunnel.
The convicted perpetrator was 17 years old at the time of the crime, and the prison sentence is the longest that can be imposed on a minor.
He is also appealing the verdicts for, among other things, two cases of attempted murder against rival gang members, for which he has also been convicted.
