The minimum marriage age for girls has been abolished by the Taliban, who in a new law link the legal age of marriage to puberty, writes The Times.
Previously, the legal age of marriage was 16 for girls, or younger with permission from their father or a judge.
The age limit has now been removed.
If a girl reaches puberty at the age of nine or ten, she is considered to have reached the legal age to marry, Horia Mosadiq of the organization Conflict Analysis Network told the newspaper.
The minimum age for puberty is nine years, according to the largest and oldest Sunni school of Islamic law.
