In mid-July, the T. rex “Gus” - named after Gary “Gus” Licking, the rancher on whose land in South Dakota the skeleton was found - will be put up for sale at auction house Sotheby’s. The expected price, the equivalent of between 185 and 275 million kronor, would be the highest for a dinosaur fossil, the Financial Times reports.
According to Sotheby's, the skeleton is one of the most complete T. rex specimens ever found.
However, the final price could be even higher. Two years ago, a nearly complete Stegosaurus skeleton sold for about the equivalent of 470 million kronor, after being expected to fetch around 60 million kronor.
