Apparently on a whim, the man opened fire from his residence at passersby. Over 15 people are injured after the shooting in western Sydney in Australia. The police have now presented formal charges against a 60-year-old suspect.

The incident occurred in the Croydon Park district early on Sunday evening, local time. The suspected perpetrator shot indiscriminately at passing vehicles and police cars, according to the police.

It may have fired between 50 and 100 shots, said Stephen Parry, acting police chief in the state of New South Wales.

The number of gunshot wounded was written down on Monday from 20 to just over 15.

Someone's windshield exploded, then the bus stop's glass was smashed, says witness Joe Azar to the newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald.

I got a surreal feeling, "oh, this is really happening).

Such shooting incidents are very rare in Australia.

During my 35 years in the police, we have had very few events of this kind, when someone randomly shoots at people on the street, says Parry.

The 60-year-old could be arrested in the residence from which he is believed to have shot. His motive is unclear.
