Swedish-Iranian filmmaker and actress Maryam Moghaddam has, together with her husband, been sentenced to over two years in prison in Iran, reports Cultural News on Swedish Radio.
Moghaddam tells the radio that she has not yet decided whether to appeal the verdict or not.
It is the film "A small piece of cake", written and directed by Moghaddam and her husband Behtash Sanaeeha, that has upset Iran's regime. It is accused of breaking the country's censorship rules and spreading propaganda.
In September 2024, the distributor Triart Film announced that Moghaddam had her Swedish passport confiscated by Iranian authorities in connection with the film's Swedish cinema premiere.
She was also denied exit at the film's premiere at the Berlin Film Festival the same year.
