The Moderate Party begins today, Thursday, its party conference in Västerås to adopt new policies ahead of the 2026 election.
Among other things, the party's integration policy will be updated. Like other Tidö parties, the party board wants a Swedish identity and Swedish values to be given greater weight in The Moderate Party's integration policy.
The party board writes in its proposal that national identity with its symbols and traditions is important for integration. Sweden is considered to need more of, for example, a richer state ceremonial life and greater focus on the Swedish cultural heritage.
Writing contracts
The Moderate Party wants a new integration policy goal: "In Sweden, you accept and comply with Swedish values". Examples of important values mentioned include equality, not burdening others, and consensus-seeking.
A proposal is to review the discrimination law so that it does not counteract Swedish values, such as religious reasons allowing men to refuse to shake hands with women at work.
When different perspectives collide with each other, then it must be the values we have in Sweden and our view that should be guiding, says Minister of Migration Johan Forssell (M).
Another proposal is that new arrivals should sign a Sweden contract to live according to Sweden's fundamental values, follow Swedish law, learn Swedish, acquire knowledge about Swedish society, and actively seek employment.
The Moderate Party sees integration as one of the major challenges during the next term. Among them is also the continued fight against crime. Many of the party's proposals are, however, already being implemented by the government through the Tidö agreement.
Most debate
But the party board sees a need ahead for a reform to give municipalities increased influence over local order and safety. One part is to allow municipalities to employ their own "safety guards", who should be able to operate within the entire municipality's geographical area, have greater powers, longer training, and better equipment. Even stun guns and firearms should be considered, according to the proposal.
It is a major and important reform to increase safety for citizens locally and in everyday life, says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M).
Most debate at the conference is expected to be about economic policy, which the party sees as one of its strongest cards ahead of the election.
We want to push the party further, says Douglas Thor, chairman of the Moderate Youth League.
He believes that MUF can, among other things, get the conference's approval for the first 500,000 kronor you earn in life to be tax-free and that child allowance should be converted into a deduction from income tax.
