A marine rescuer has died and one person is missing since a boat capsized in Nappstraumen in Norwegian Lofoten. On board the capsized boat were six Swedish tourists and a fishing guide, writes the newspaper VG.

Six people have been rescued, but the seventh is missing. One of the rescued persons has been taken to hospital in Lofoten, reports NRK. The remaining five are unharmed.

The deceased rescue worker was quickly taken to land, but their life could not be saved.

"This is a very tough day for the rescue service", says Hanne H Bragstad, department head at the rescue centre Nord-Norge, in a press release.

According to Bragstad, it is unclear exactly what has happened.

"It is something a future investigation may possibly explain", she says.

The alarm about the boat capsizing came at 1 pm on Friday. Both a helicopter and boats with divers were sent out in the rescue operation.

The search for the missing person is ongoing at full force on Friday evening with boats from the rescue service, the police, the coast guard and also volunteers.

Norway's Minister of Justice Astri Aas-Hansen tells NTB that she regrets that a sea rescuer died "while he was on the job to save lives".
