Lottie Woad, Madelene Sagström and many more players are now going directly from the European tour event in Ireland to the French Evian-les-Bains where the major tournament Evian Championship starts on Thursday.
Woad has received a sponsor invitation to the tournament. If her form holds, the golf professionals will have to watch out. On the O'Meara course in Ireland, she was in a class of her own and won the tournament at -21, six strokes ahead of Sagström and seven strokes ahead of Amelia Garvey, New Zealand.
The victory means a lot. I'm playing well right now, hope it continues in Evian, said Woad to the European tour's website.
Sagström was five strokes behind Woad before the final round.
I knew my only chance was to get a hot start, and I didn't get that. She (Woad) played fantastically, it was her week. I'm happy for her sake and she will take European and American golf by storm very soon, said Sagström afterwards.
Otherwise, I'm very pleased with my game, especially with the last nine.
After the fine rehearsal in Ireland, Sagström may have greater hopes in this week's major tournament than the outcome was in the last major tournament, the PGA Championship a few weeks ago. Then she failed the first two days and did not get to play the last two rounds.
Other Swedes in the Evian Championship: Maja Stark, Linn Grant, Ingrid Lindblad and Anna Nordqvist. Linnea Ström and Frida Kinhult are third and eighth reserve, respectively.
