David Spreitz Elings took the gold in the static apnea event at the World Championship (Aida) in Wakayama in Japan.

With 10 minutes and 27 seconds under the surface, he beat both the opponents and the Swedish record – and at the same time noted the third best time in the world of all time.

He won with a good margin – second-placed Aleksandr Maksimov reached 9 minutes and 17 seconds.

This is not the first time 35-year-old Spreitz Elings steps highest on the podium.

He won the same event at the Aida World Championship in Lithuania in June 2024 (9.05), as well as at the CMAS World Championship in Athens in May this year where he held his breath for exactly 10 minutes.

Aida and CMAS are the two largest competitions in freediving and organize their own World Championship.
