"It is part of our mission to draw attention to the obstacles we see to effective competition in the market. Developments in the electricity grid market raise questions about pricing power and lack of competition," says David Nordström, head of unit at the Swedish Competition Authority, in a press release.
The electricity grid companies, which act as natural monopolies, have raised prices sharply in recent years. The Energy Market Inspectorate, which regulates the companies' so-called revenue limits, has previously ruled that the grid companies are overcompensating.
Depending on what the Swedish Competition Authority concludes, it "could result in us deepening our competition analysis in selected areas or submitting proposals that can improve the functioning of the market," the authority writes.
