"We do not want the same structure as at present when it comes to the Prime Minister's Office in foreign and security policy," says S party leader Magdalena Andersson at a meeting with parliamentary journalists.

Instead of an apolitical civil servant, S wants to establish a political state secretary in the cabinet who is responsible for these issues and is also a national security advisor.

The reason for this is that foreign policy will be high on the agenda even in the next term, says Andersson, mentioning the Middle East, Ukraine and the American administration. The requirement is that the person is a social democrat.

The person can speak on behalf of the government, says Andersson.

What this means for the office, which currently operates under the National Security Advisor, is unclear.

We will be able to present this closer to the election or after the election, says Andersson.
