Sweden's Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard (The Moderate Party) says in a written comment to TT that "the Ministry for Foreign Affairs is following the situation carefully", after the activist Greta Thunberg has been deprived of her freedom and is to be taken to Israel.

”Sweden's embassy in Tel Aviv has contact with Israeli authorities, as well as with a number of other countries whose citizens are participating in the flotilla. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Sweden's embassy in Tel Aviv have on several occasions conveyed to Israel that we expect the sailing to be carried out with peaceful methods and that it will be met with a corresponding approach by Israel, and have emphasized the importance of the safety and consular rights of Swedish participants”, says Malmer Stenergard (The Moderate Party).

She continues:

”Should there be a need for consular support, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will assess how we can best help the Swedish citizens to resolve their situation.”

The Left Party demands that the government condemns Israel's military as the operation ”is in contravention of international law”.

Sweden now needs to summon Israel's ambassador and clearly condemn the attack to him, and urge Israel to release all those arrested, says the Left Party's foreign policy spokesperson Håkan Svenneling.

Then Sweden's embassy in Tel Aviv needs to provide consular assistance to the Swedish citizens who are on these boats and who will most likely be arrested tonight.
