The match winner: Viktor Gyökeres with the winning goal in the closing minutes. The same player who scored all three goals in the 3-1 win against Ukraine on Thursday.

"It was an incredible night, a fantastic atmosphere. Poland were very good and it was difficult. It wasn't perfect, but who cares, we're going to the World Cup," national team head coach Graham Potter told Viaplay.

The decisive moments:

+ Anthony Elanga's dream date

The match was in the balance when Gabriel Gudmundsson turned in from the left, passing to Yasin Ayari, who thought Elanga was running diagonally behind him.

He had.

Elanga struck with his left. Straight into the roof of the net. 1–0 in the 19th minute. Strawberry Arena exploded in a huge roar of joy.

"I feel a great sense of pride that we were able to do this. We got a second chance and beat Poland, got our revenge," Elanga told Viaplay.

+ Zalewski's equalizer

Daniel Svensson backed up and had no support.

Nicola Zalewski turned in, shot with his right foot. The shot was unremarkable. Kristoffer Nordfeldt seemed to be fooled by the ball changing direction slightly when it touched Jesper Karlström's back.

+ Practice makes perfect

Andreas Georgson, responsible for set pieces at Tottenham and the national team, has been practicing corner kicks and free kicks with the players during the training sessions in Valencia and Solna. It paid dividends.

Gustaf Lagerbielke came running at full speed and scored a perfect header on Benjamin Nygren's inward-swept free kick in the 44th minute of the match.

With his strong header, Lagerbielke is an excellent offensive weapon. He came extremely close to heading in 3–1 early in the second half.

+ VAR check

Poland had no choice but to move forward. Dare, take a chance, hope for the best.

That was enough for now. After 55 minutes, the fight for the World Cup spot was wide open again.

Offside on Karol Swiderski's 2-2? The VAR room didn't consider it.

+ Final word

This was not for the faint of heart. With minutes remaining, Viktor Gyökeres sent in the goal that sent them all the way to the USA. To the World Cup. Substitute Lucas Bergvall fired a wide shot, after which Besfort Zeneli, also a substitute, hit the post.

And there, in the scramble, Gyökeres tapped the ball in and almost 50,000 spectators didn't know where to go.

Sweden will face Tunisia, the Netherlands and Japan in the group stage. Their base will be Dallas.
