Rural Minister Peter Kullgren (KD) calls the EU Commission's basic proposal for next year's catch quotas "reasonably balanced". But he is worried that other countries on the Baltic Sea want to fish more.
We stand together with the Commission relatively alone. But we keep fighting, says Kullgren to SR Ekot on the way to this year's decisive negotiations in Luxembourg.
Sweden's main priority is to keep down the quotas for herring and sprat in the central Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia.
It has actually gone in the right direction this year – but it's not enough. A lower quota means that the recovery goes faster, says Kullgren in Luxembourg.
A final agreement will come at the earliest on Tuesday, when the ministerial meeting resumes in the morning.
