Of the youths born in 2006, approximately 39,000 were deemed to have the prerequisites for enlistment, out of around 107,000 who received the first questionnaire.
This year, among the youths born in 2007, there is a larger proportion and nearly half: around 52,000 out of 108,000.
This is explained by the fact that the questions in the enlistment basis have become fewer and more specific.
"What we have primarily done is to adjust the questions so that it is clearer what we are asking for and that they can also be verified with certificates or medical records. We have also removed some questions that previously were directly disqualifying," says Evelina Huldén Bergström, coordinator at the Conscription and Enlistment Agency, according to a press release.
The agency emphasizes that it is not about lowering the requirements, but about making part of the assessment during the enlistment itself.
