Hungary has been oscillating between the A World Championship and the division below, B World Championship, in recent years. And the national team managed to barely make it back up to this year's championship. Thus, Damkronorna would only "sweep away" the opposition on Thursday, when the teams clashed in the Ice Hockey World Championship.
But it didn't quite turn out that way.
For nearly two periods, Sweden had major problems creating opportunities, and the score was long stuck at 0–0. But with just over a minute left of the second period, Linnea Johansson finally managed to score the decisive goal into the top of the net from close range.
Nice to get that one in, so we can relax a bit now that the first one is in, says the goal scorer to SVT, who then continued to criticize Sweden's play during the match.
The first period is under all criticism. The puck is slow and it felt almost like we underestimated them, but not really. But we're not doing our job, we're on the wrong side and making wrong decisions.
Sweden held on and eventually won 2–0, after a concluding goal from Lina Ljungblom.
On Sunday, Japan awaits Damkronorna, before the group concludes against Norway on Tuesday.
