Finland had not conceded a single goal in the Bandy World Championship in Lidköping before Friday, and offered Sweden the clearly toughest opposition so far as expected.
After the first half, Sweden led, but only narrowly with 3–2 after the Finns showed sharpness in set pieces with two corner goals.
However, a Swedish explosive start after the break decided the rivalry match.
Oscar Wikblad scored 4–2 just two minutes after the break. Christoffer Edlund extended to 5–2 less than two minutes later, and when the match was not settled, it was then, as Edlund – the Villa Lidköping star who gets to play the World Championship on his home ground – tapped in 6–2 with 20 minutes left to play.
In the end, Edlund scored four goals from his stick, and Sweden won with a clear 8–3.
In Saturday's semifinals, Sweden will face the USA, while Finland takes on Norway. If nothing sensational happens, it will be a new Finnish clash for the World Championship gold on Sunday.
