Sweden Democrats and Moderate Party Clash Over Historical Controversies

The Sweden Democrats have a murky past, writes Minister for Financial Markets Niklas Wykman (The Moderate Party) on X. ”It would be fitting with a bit of humility”, responds SD leader Jimmie Åkesson.

”SD has a history, and like V, the historical baggage is something that makes the party stand out in Swedish politics”, writes Niklas Wykman.

The statement comes on the same day as SD publishes its white paper where it is stated that the party was founded by people with connections to nationalist socialist and neo-fascist movements. Then, representatives denied the Holocaust and spread anti-Semitism.

”Nothing to boast about”

When party leader Jimmie Åkesson joined the party in 1995, a break with the white power elements occurred, at the same time the party continued to emphasize ethnic, cultural homogeneity.

”With M, you get the right policy for Sweden – without a dirty past”, Wykman concludes his post.

Jimmie Åkesson responds to the minister on X:

”If we are to talk about history and immigration policy, then The Moderate Party has nothing to boast about. On the contrary. And at least your party leader has had the good taste to admit it.”

Andersson: Current problems

The Sweden Democrats need to make amends with their current problems, says The Social Democrats' party leader Magdalena Andersson.

I think it's naturally good that they publish this white paper. But above all, they need to make amends with their current problem with racism and anti-Semitism in The Sweden Democrats, where there were over 200 people on their lists in the last election who had made Nazi or racist statements, she says and adds:

But also that you give a person like Björn Söder, who thinks that Jews cannot be Swedes, an elevated platform in the Swedish Parliament.
