Sweden pledged in December last year a Swedish contribution to IDA and the government has now made a decision on the support, which is paid out step by step during the years 2026-2034.
Through the fund's model, every invested aid krona can provide three and a half to four kronor in loans and grants to the recipient countries, according to the government. In total, the replenishment of the fund will generate 100 billion dollars to 1.9 billion people in 78 of the world's poorest countries over the next three years.
"We are currently living in a time marked by increased economic and geopolitical uncertainty, which affects not least the world's low-income countries. Sweden is therefore contributing to a record large replenishment of the fund with a total of 8.2 billion kronor", says Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa (The Moderate Party) in a press release.
