At lunchtime on Monday, large parts of Spain and Portugal were blacked out. Filip Nilsson, who works at Workwide in Malaga, was at the office when the power went out.
We had neither power nor internet coverage, and even mobile data went down. There was no one who had mobile coverage, so it was impossible to work at all, he says to TT.
"Involuntary stair training"
He points out that others have been affected worse than he has, such as people who got stuck in elevators. For him, it meant going down eight flights of stairs from the office and then taking himself home to the apartment – 20 floors up.
For my part, it became an involuntary stair training.
When it was not possible to work, he instead took refuge in the gym, which was still open.
In the late afternoon, the power was still not back.
There is a pretty weird atmosphere here in town. People are a bit confused. I talked to people at the gym and they were talking about cyber attacks – it's the talk of the town.
Info from Sweden
Since the power went out, he has not received any information from the local authorities, which he takes with a grain of salt.
It feels like I mostly get information from Sweden.
It's not Sweden, things don't work the same way. You have to count on that when you live abroad, he continues.
He lives with his cousin and the question going forward is how they will get food. It's not possible to cook anything and Filip has no cash and the grocery stores do not accept cards at the moment.
I don't know what we'll do, but it's just wait and see.
