The decision from the Supreme Court gives the Department of Homeland Security the authority to quickly revoke Temporary Protected Status, a program that covers a total of 1.3 million people from 17 countries.
The administration has already revoked protections for people from 13 countries, including Venezuela. The protections allow people to temporarily stay and work in the United States if their home countries are affected by war or natural disasters.
The lifting of protections for Haiti and Syria is taking place despite the countries still being considered extremely unsafe.
Four Haitian women who were deported from the United States in February were found decapitated and dumped in a river a few months later, a lawyer said, citing court documents.
