Skiing talent Alvar Myhlback's success in the World Cup continues. The 19-year-old finished third in the sprint final in Trondheim. It's the Swede's first podium finish in the World Cup - the record-young Vasaloppet winner is actually focusing on long-distance races.

"I'm so happy with that. What a day," he tells Viaplay.

He rode without tack all day and made it through all the races.

"I'm no better than the best at going on a foothold. I'm perhaps the best in the world at staking and then I get to do it my way," says Myhlback.

“Be tired”

"I was tired. The train was about to leave up there," he continues.

Norwegian ski king Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won on home soil and took his 100th World Cup victory. Oskar Opstad Vike finished second, but was only three hundredths ahead of Myhlback.

It was Myhlback against Norway in the final – all the other five skaters came from the neighboring country.

Myhlback has said that he is focusing on long-distance running this season as well, but both the 19-year-old and the national team management should probably consider a trip to the Olympics in February.

Right now he is Sweden's best sprinter on the men's side.

In Ruka last weekend he came ninth in the sprint premiere after being the only Swede in the semi-finals. And now he took the first podium of his career in the World Cup in traditional skiing.

"It's huge. It means a lot. What a start to the season," he tells Viaplay.

Passing to competitors

Now more people will probably want to see him at least in the World Cup.

"Maybe it is. Or maybe they don't want to. Maybe that's the question," says Myhlback with a nod to the competitors.

Anton Grahn made it to the semifinals and Edvin Anger, who is already an Olympic qualifier, only finished fifth in his quarterfinal and was thus eliminated.
