"With sorrow and dismay, my family and I have received the information about the atrocious act of violence in Örebro. We are sending our condolences this evening to the families and friends of the deceased. Our thoughts are also with the injured and their relatives, as well as the others affected", writes the King in a press release.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) wrote earlier today that he had received information about the act of violence in Örebro with sorrow.
Other party leaders are also commenting on the event.
"It's a very painful day for all of Sweden. My thoughts are also with all those whose ordinary school day was replaced by horror. To be trapped in a classroom with fear for one's own life is a nightmare that no one should have to experience", Kristersson says in a written comment to TT.
"The Government is in close contact with the Police Authority and is closely following the development of the event."
Pehrson on site in Örebro
The Liberals' leader, Örebro native Johan Pehrson, reacts with horror to the act at the school that he himself has experiences from.
Risbergska was previously a high school and it was my high school, and I was the student council president, he says to TT outside the school.
This is a black day for Sweden, it's a black day for Örebro. My thoughts are solely with all the victims and their relatives. Now is the time to mourn and let the police and other authorities do what they can to clear up who did this, why it happened, and what the purpose was.
The Social Democrats' party leader Magdalena Andersson is also commenting on the event:
"My thoughts are with the affected, their relatives, and the police on site. It's very important that the public now follows the police's and other authorities' instructions", Andersson says in a written comment.
"Atrocious"
The Left Party's Nooshi Dadgostar writes that her heart is with the affected.
"The violence our country is going through is an abyss we must climb out of together", she writes on X.
The Centre Party's Muharrem Demirok is also commenting on the event:
”It's atrocious to learn about what has happened in Örebro. School should be a safe place, anything else is a failure. My thoughts are with the affected and their relatives", he writes on X.
The Sweden Democrats' leader Jimmie Åkesson is dismayed:
"Such atrocious acts should not be able to occur in Sweden. My thoughts are with those who are in the midst of this nightmare", he writes on X.
