The forest company Stora Enso will spend 12 million kronor to save freshwater pearl mussels that they are suspected of having run over last year, writes Dagens industri.

Stora Enso is initiating a multi-year collaboration with the Finnish Forest Administration's Parks and Wildlife to preserve the acutely endangered freshwater pearl mussel in Finland.

"The goal is also to contribute to preventing mussel damage like in Hukkajoki from happening again," says Pekka Sulkava, Director of Nature Conservation at the Forest Administration in a press release.

The incident was investigated in Finland as a serious environmental crime and the forestry company suspended logging in all Finnish areas with restrictions.
