British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Parliament he regrets the appointment of Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States.

He has betrayed his country, he has lied repeatedly, he is responsible for a long line of frauds, but this moment calls not just for anger, but for action, he says.

Mandelson was fired last year when it emerged that he had contact with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein after Epstein's sex trafficking conviction in 2008.

It has since emerged that he appears to have discussed political issues with Epstein. In addition, documents suggest that in 2003-2004, when he was a member of parliament, he received a total of $75,000 (approximately SEK 670,000) from Epstein - something he says he does not remember.

On Tuesday, Mandelson left his seat in the House of Lords.
