The raid on Friday was the latest legal part in the extensive investigation that is shaking Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's social democratic government party. The assault came after a decision in the country's highest court, where it was established that computer files belonging to high-ranking individuals within the party will be examined.
Socialist party heavyweights Santos Cerdán and former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos are suspected of having received bribes in connection with procurement procedures according to a police statement last week.
In the raid on the party headquarters, the files that Cerdán kept in the office were copied. His bank accounts will also be examined according to the Spanish Supreme Court.
Cerdán has previously left the powerful post as party secretary and Ábalos has been forced to leave the party.
The Socialists were voted into power in 2018 with a promise to clean up corruption scandals that affected the conservative Partido Popular (PP) when the party held government power.
