Henrik Rydström, who took over for the 2023 season, was fired from his coaching position at the end of September. Anes Mravac has since been interim coach for MFF, which finished sixth in this year's Allsvenskan.
On December 2, the replacement was presented: Miguel Ángel Ramírez.
“Comprehensive process”
"It has been a very long and extensive process. Probably the biggest we have done so far. It started with about 50 names. We have met with 13–14 coaches in the first stage," says Malmö's sports director Daniel Andersson.
"First and foremost, it's about what game we want to play and we think Miguel matches that very well. We can also see that from data from previous teams and how he develops talents," Andersson continues.
His last coaching assignment was with Spanish second division team Real Zaragoza. After three months and ten matches, he was fired in March 2025.
"I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to coach such a big club as Malmö FF. We want to win, we want to win big things together," says Miguel Ángel Ramírez.
Ramírez's greatest success came in 2019 when he coached Ecuador's Independiente del Valle to the Copa Sudamericana title, the second-largest club tournament in South America after the Copa Libertadores.
“Strong leader”
The Spaniard has also coached Sporting Gijón in Spain (second division), al-Wakrah in Qatar, MLS club Charlotte in the USA and Internacional in Brazil.
"He is a strong leader who has been in tough environments and can handle heavy pressure. He has been in many different cultures and learned from it," says Andersson.
Ramírez will take office at the turn of the year. MFF has one competitive match left in 2025. On December 11, Porto awaits away in the Europa League. Malmö has taken one point from the opening five matches.
