Infantino has led FIFA since 2016, when he was elected to a three-year term at an extraordinary congress in the wake of the corruption scandals surrounding former president Sepp Blatter.
Infantino has not announced whether he will run for re-election next year. He can serve as president for a maximum of three full, four-year terms, which means he could serve until 2031 at the latest if re-elected.
Infantino has been criticized for his leadership style, especially in parts of Europe. The last controversy involving him was when FIFA established its own peace prize, which was awarded to US President Donald Trump.
