The US president has reportedly told his staff in recent days that he believes the war is in its final stages. Trump is also said to have urged them to stick to a timeline he initially set, four to six weeks, according to the newspaper.
Meanwhile, conflicting information continues to emerge from the US and Iran about whether peace negotiations are underway. On Thursday night, Trump claimed that Iranian leaders do not dare admit that they are negotiating with the US.
"They really want to make a deal, but they're afraid to admit it because they think they'll get killed by their own people," Trump said on Thursday night, local time in Sweden, according to the BBC.
The move came after Iran once again denied the negotiations and reports that the country had rejected the US peace plan.
Just hours earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that messages had been exchanged with the United States through intermediaries, but that no negotiations had taken place.
State-run Iranian Press TV previously reported that a senior official had stated that Iran had presented five conditions to end the war, including recognition of Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz.
The conditions can be seen as counter-demands to the 15-point plan for a ceasefire that the US reportedly submitted to Iran.
