During the exercise, the Home Guard in Stockholm and the Life Guard's Life Battalion are training in protection and surveillance of socially critical buildings and facilities, according to the Swedish Armed Forces in a press release.
It involves, for example, the Parliament, the Government Offices, the Defence Headquarters, airports, and harbors. Armed soldiers will be seen not only in central Stockholm but also on Gärdet, northern Djurgården, areas in Kista, Bromma, Kungsängen, as well as in Ekerö and Huddinge municipalities.
Around 2,000 people, including personnel from other total defense actors, are participating in the exercise, dubbed Birger Jarl 25.
"Stockholm's inner city is a complex environment to operate in, and therefore it is important that we exercise together," says the exercise leader, Lieutenant Colonel Niclas Eriksson.
