Dance is truly a popular movement and a part of the Swedish cultural heritage. And in these times, which can seem gloomy, it is important with joy and socializing, says Niklas Karlsson, (S), chairman of the Riksdag's tax committee.
He also does not think it is reasonable that concerts have a VAT of six percent and dance events 25 percent. The proposal will be included in the Social Democrats' budget motion in the autumn and is estimated to cost the state treasury between 50 and 100 million kronor.
The government is also considering removing the dance band VAT and has sent out a proposal for review ahead of the budget negotiations on the budget bill for 2026.
