It is hair-raising and shows a total ruthlessness from private school capitalists. I understand that Sweden's parents are furious. We are too, says S leader Magdalena Andersson.
Now S is going to propose a so-called committee initiative in the Riksdag on profit ban in preschool. To prohibit profits in preschool, school and high school was something the party agreed on already at its congress in the spring.
Must be investigated
How a profit ban is to work in practice must, according to S, be investigated. But Magdalena Andersson does not rule out that it may mean that limited companies are prohibited from running preschools and schools.
In the Companies Act, it is clear that this (making a profit) is the point of the business, it is not the development or learning of children.
A possible way is to completely prohibit limited companies, but we have been clear that if there are other ways that are better to do this, then we are open to looking at it.
It is unclear what support S can gather for its initiative.
Temporary profit stop
The government is also working to try to limit profit withdrawals in preschool and school. In the spring, an investigation proposed a temporary profit stop for independent schools that, for example, start up or change owners. However, no legislative proposal has yet been presented.
S does not think it is enough.
The Moderate Party and the government are after three years completely unable to do anything about this, and it may also be because they have always protected this system, says Andersson.
