This includes a programme to combat youth unemployment, for example through more trainee positions. The party also wants to double the number of training courses that can lead to jobs.

Labour market training must be expanded significantly, says the party's labour market policy spokesperson Ardalan Shekarabi (S).

The package also includes "a fresh start for the Swedish Employment Agency" and a strong unemployment insurance system.

The party also wants to see what is called a "job ladder".

The job ladder involves both tough requirements and good opportunities to move from benefits to jobs, says Shekarabi.

Municipalities should be able to assign people who are on income support and who are able to work to the Swedish Public Employment Service's various initiatives, with "clear requirements to take the jobs that are available".

For people who do not have sufficient prior knowledge to be able to participate in labour market training, it may also be a matter of taking a preparatory course at a folk high school.

There should be an obligation to actively participate, and it should be a prerequisite for maintaining livelihood support during the operation, says Ardalan Shekarabi.

Magdalena Andersson does not want to specify what happens if someone does not want to participate in a programme, other than that there needs to be a consequence.

But my impression is that people who get the opportunity to take a shortage vocational training course also do so and are usually very grateful for that opportunity, she says.
