The Social Democrats propose in their upcoming shadow budget that the maintenance support is temporarily increased by 500 kronor from July 1, which would cost the state half a billion kronor.
The support goes to single parents where the other mother or father does not contribute to the child.
Statistics show that the group that has it the hardest during this cost crisis is single parents with children, says S economic policy spokesperson Mikael Damberg.
"Extremely surprised"
The support is targeted and goes to those with the greatest need right now, according to Damberg.
He became "extremely surprised" when the government did not proceed with a temporary increase in housing allowance in the spring budget, which was presented on Tuesday.
There is nothing in these families' daily lives that has become cheaper, says Damberg.
S also wants to provide support to schools and organizations that offer children lunch during holidays. The party proposes in its budget motion that 300 million kronor is allocated to be able to offer free holiday lunches.
For me as a Social Democrat, it feels un-Swedish that we are forced to work with such measures when we know that many children, when they are not in school, actually do not eat properly at lunch.
A minority of municipalities offer free lunch during holidays today, but if more could serve food to young people, it can pave the way for more to attend holiday school or take summer jobs, according to Damberg.
