SMHI has issued an orange warning for the southern coastal region of Norrland from 11 a.m. on New Year's Day until 9 a.m. on January 2. Another orange snow and wind warning has been issued for southern Gästrikland and northern Uppland from Thursday morning through Friday.
Park the car
The Swedish Transport Administration is also warning that traffic conditions will be difficult on Thursday. Anyone who absolutely needs to get out on the roads should expect it to take longer.
Anyone who takes the car should make sure it is equipped with good winter tires, a shovel and an ice scraper. And have warm clothes and something to eat and drink in case something happens that leaves you stranded, says Veronika Gustavsson, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration.
For Svealand and southernmost Norrland there is a yellow warning for snowfall on New Year's Day. It is in effect from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cancelled trains
New Year's Eve has been clear in most places, with freezing temperatures across most of the country.
But then it gets cloudy towards the evening, and around midnight it starts to snow in parts of southern Norrland and Dalarna.
The cold and snow then persist.
This low-pressure system will remain throughout the weekend over large parts of the country, so there may be warnings further ahead.
For safety reasons, rail traffic on the Bothnia Line, the Ådal Line and parts of the Northern Main Line and the East Coast Line will be suspended from 12 noon on January 1 for one day. This will affect, among other things, trains between Stockholm and Åre.
Corrected: In a previous version, there was incorrect information about the amount of snow expected.
