Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is threatening to cut emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine unless the neighboring country reopens an oil pipeline from Russia.

Slovakia is releasing 250,000 tons of oil from the country's emergency reserve, the prime minister announced on Wednesday.

The prime minister said the Druzhba pipeline, which runs from Russia through Ukraine to Slovakia and Hungary, had been shut down. According to Ukrainian authorities, the pipeline was damaged by a Russian attack on the country's energy infrastructure on January 27.

Fico said at a press conference that repair work had already been completed and accused Ukraine of "blackmail." He also threatened to withdraw from an agreement on emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine.

The European Commission stated on Tuesday that dialogue is underway with the parties to the dispute.
