The two men had set out on a long ski trip on the ice - from Oulu in Finland all the way to Luleå, writes Norrländska Socialdemokraten. A journey of over 160 kilometers.
On Saturday night, the expedition suffered a setback when the ice broke, the skiers' equipment ended up in the sea and they were unable to continue.
After a night in a tent, they turned on a distress signal, but despite efforts by helicopters and aircraft from both Finland and Sweden, they were not found.
At 10:30, however, a new position came from the transmitter - and thanks to the skiers forming a large "SOS" with ice blocks, they were found and picked up from the ice floe by a Finnish helicopter.
