The number of registered cases of measles doubled last year compared to the previous year and rose to 127,350 cases, the highest level in Europe in 25 years, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Unicef.
Almost half of those affected by the disease were children under five years old.
"A main reason is that the number of children being vaccinated dropped sharply during the pandemic, and vaccination coverage has not recovered since then", Unicef and WHO write in a press release.
Most cases were reported in Romania and in Sweden, 37 cases were reported.
