This September was the third warmest ever measured, according to the EU's climate service Copernicus.

The temperature for September this year did not beat the record month of September 2023, but was only marginally cooler than 2024.

However, it was 1.47 degrees warmer than the pre-industrial average, which is an estimate of the temperature during the period 1850–1900.

Also, July and August this year were the third warmest ever measured.

The global temperatures have risen steadily over the past few decades due to human emissions of greenhouse gases. Researchers estimate that the full year 2025 will be noted as the third warmest since 1850, after 2023 and 2024.
