Fashion is the most popular category, where sales have increased by 11 percent since September and over 30 percent since August.

The majority of second-hand sales take place online, which accounts for 70 percent of sales.

Before Christmas, sales of new products are expected to dominate, but home decor and fashion, which are big on the second-hand market, are expected to continue to do well.

"Last year, we saw how every fourth consumer planned to buy some second-hand Christmas gift, and given the trend we've noted during the year, we don't think it will be fewer this year, rather the opposite," says Maria Mikkonen, chief economist at Svensk Handel, in a press release.
