Gällivare's administrative director, Peter Olsson, is furious with Education Minister Simona Mohamsson (L) after a debate about the school in Malmfälten. He tells the newspaper Skoldedaren that it is downright offensive to students, teachers and school leaders in Malmfälten.

In an interpellation debate in the Riksdag, the Minister of Education was asked how the government plans to address the problems facing schools in Gällivare and Kiruna, including declining results and low teacher qualifications.

Mohamsson responds by listing the school reforms that the government has announced - such as a ten-year compulsory school system, new curricula and regulated teaching hours, measures she believes will make the teaching profession more attractive.

Higher salaries have enticed teachers around Malmfälten to leave teaching for the mining industry. In the last two years, 27% and 30% of students have not qualified for high school.
