Many bands and artists have chosen not to play in Russia after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. How Malmsteen, who has released around 20 solo albums during his nearly 50-year career, views performing there is unclear. GP has been unable to reach him for comment.
What is clear is that he will play at Sweden Rock in June.
"If we had known about this when we booked, we might have decided differently, but unfortunately there is nothing in our contracts that prohibits this," says Hannes Emeus, the festival's press officer, to the newspaper.
