The alarms come after Iran warned that it would attack energy facilities in those countries. This is in response to Israel's attack on facilities at Iran's largest gas field.

The attacks represent an escalation in the US and Israel's war against Iran, which until now has largely avoided striking the country's oil and gas sector.

“Uncontrollable consequences”

"This will complicate the situation and could have uncontrollable consequences," Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian wrote on X.

The fire at the gas plant in Qatar was reported to have been brought under control on Wednesday evening. Qatar condemned the Iranian attack, describing it as a "direct threat to the country's national security."

During the afternoon and evening, loud explosions were heard over the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh.

Several drones and rockets

Saudi Arabia says it has destroyed five drones that were heading towards gas facilities, and shot down four ballistic missiles. Pieces from one of the missiles landed near a refinery south of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's defense ministry said.

The United Arab Emirates also announced that the UAE's air defenses have been activated to ward off drone and missile attacks from Iran.

Since the US and Israel started the war, Iran has launched several attacks on countries around the Persian Gulf that host American military bases, and has used attacks and threats to disrupt traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, where much of the world's energy exports pass.
