”Since there is a strong epidemiological connection between all 50 cases that have been confirmed, it is highly likely that all cases have a connection to the eggs”, says Malin Enarsson, infectious disease doctor in Sörmland, in the press release.
The eggs are supposed to come from a Swedish producer and have now been recalled. The investigation was conducted by the Public Health Agency.
After the outbreak, four deaths were initially investigated. Three of them turned out to have other causes, but one of the people who died was infected with salmonella. However, it is not certain that it was the cause of death.
