From and on June 19, it is prohibited to fish in a part of Munkedalsälven, writes the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management on its website.
The ban comes after the parasite Gyrodactylus salaris, also called laxdjävul, has been found in a salmon fry. The discovery is the first made north of Göta älv.
Munkedalsälven is located in western Sweden and is a tributary to Örekilsälven. All equipment used for fishing on salmon-bearing stretches in Örekilsälven must therefore be disinfected.
”Laxdjävulen” causes high mortality in salmon and has previously caused major problems in Norway.
