The text message, which was sent out on Saturday morning, states that "The Social Democrats and the Sweden Democrats agree that all Muslim independent schools should be closed," reports Expressen.
S calls the mailing a violation of the law. "This shows once again what a dirty election campaign the Sweden Democrats are conducting," the party's press service writes to the newspaper.
“Important signal”
According to the Swedish Privacy Authority, IMY, political parties have limited ability to send political advertising via SMS.
Last year, the authority reviewed text messages and emails from M and SD. According to Expressen, the authority concluded that the messages violated GDPR.
SD's press chief Oskar Cavalli-Björkman responds that the party believes that S shares the party's view on Muslim independent schools, and that it is "an important signal to send from the two largest parties in the Riksdag."
Make it a question of Muslims
According to Cavalli-Björkman, the text message went out to "a broad group of recipients, as well as a handful of journalists for the sake of transparency," Aftonbladet reports.
S does not agree that the parties should agree on the issue. On its website, the party writes that SD only wants to close Muslim independent schools and that "they are making it an issue about Muslims."
S wants "the same rules to apply regardless of religion" and that they do not want any "religious independent schools whatsoever, neither Muslim, Christian or other".
