Russian GPS disruptions against Swedish air and sea traffic destabilize the country and risk causing serious accidents. According to the Social Democrats' defense policy spokesperson Peter Hultqvist, the disruptions are to be considered as state terrorism.

During 2023, 55 GPS disruptions aimed at Sweden were registered. Until September this year, the number is 733. According to the Transport Agency, the disruptions come, among other things, from Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg.

The disruptions should be seen as part of extensive hybrid warfare from the Russian side and must be handled with a clearer firmness than what is being done today, Hultqvist means.

In practice, it creates uncertainty, a threatening situation and destabilizes societal systems. Events of this kind should be brought to the prosecutor who should pursue the matter based on the definition of a terrorist act, says Hultqvist.
