Russia refers to "Sweden's systematic breaches of the obligations in the agreement". Maria Zacharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, claims at a press conference that Russia has at the latest by 2024 requested information about Swedish nuclear power plants without receiving a response.

The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, SSM, interrupted in connection with the invasion of Ukraine all ongoing development projects in Russia and instead focused on cooperation with Ukraine as well as Moldova and Armenia. But they have not wanted to terminate the agreement with Russia because they try to maintain agreements on information exchange in the event of accidents to the greatest possible extent.

SSM also points out that both Sweden and Russia are still parties to the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident.
