Romania's presidential candidate, far-right Calin Georgescu, urges voters to go to the polling stations to try to vote in the second and decisive round, despite the country's highest court having cancelled the election on Sunday. The highest court ruled in a very surprising verdict that the first round was not valid due to irregularities.
Suspicions have also been raised about Russian interference in the election.
Sunday's second and decisive round has thus officially been cancelled.
The previously relatively unknown politician Georgescu unexpectedly received the most votes in the first round. Georgescu is against NATO membership, wants to stop supporting Ukraine, and has previously praised Russia's leader Vladimir Putin.
Georgescu would have faced the former journalist Elena Lasconi – who advocates for close EU cooperation – in the election's second and decisive round.
