Report: Decrease in Sausage Consumption in Sweden

The survey shows that Swedes are eating fewer sausages overall, but sausages are being consumed more frequently than in previous years. On average, Swedes eat 47 sausages per year, a decrease compared to 2023 and 2022, when the average was 49.

Women are eating sausages more frequently than before, with almost every other woman (49%) saying they eat sausages a couple of times a month, an increase from 46% in 2023.

Most popular sausage

Chorizo remains the most popular sausage at 43%, followed by the classic "Grill sausage" (Grillkorv) at 42%. A notable difference emerges in terms of gender preference, with men favoring Chorizo and women having a stronger affinity for Grill sausage.

Sausage consumption in Sweden

Gävleborg is the region with the most sausage enthusiasts, where 79% of the population eats sausages at least once a month, consuming an average of 56 sausages per year. The top regions for sausage consumption are:

  1. Gävleborg
  2. Norrbotten / Örebro
  3. Kronoberg
  4. Östergötland

Which car drivers eat the most sausage?

Those who eat sausages most often drive Opel, BMW, or SAAB(!). Sausages are also popular among Polestar drivers, and least popular among Tesla owners.

About the survey

The survey was conducted through Kantar Media's web panel (Sifopanelen) between September 4-11, 2024, among interviewees aged 16-79. The web panel is nationally representative and recruited through random sampling.
